Rise and Shine-Madam President: The Secret Presidency of Edith Wilson

Event Type: Rise and Shine
Date: 11/15/2017
Start Time: 10:30 AM
End Time: 11:30 AM
Description:
After President Woodrow Wilson suffered a stroke in 1919, First Lady Edith Wilson began to handle the day-to-day responsibilities of the Executive Office. Mrs. Wilson had had little formal education, yet in the tenuous peace following the end of World War I, she dedicated herself to managing the office of the president. Bestselling author William Hazelgrove discusses how Edith Wilson stepped into the Oval Office and became the acting president. Though her authority was acknowledged in Washington, D.C. circles at the time, her legacy as “First Woman President” is now largely forgotten. Presented with the Highland Park Senior Center. Sponsored by The Sheridan at Green Oaks.
