 "A True Story" by Mark Twain

Gladys Caines-Coggswell, storyteller-in-residence at The Mark Twain Boyhood Home & Museum, will perform the role of Aunt Rachel in Mark Twain’s story about the life of a former slave. For school-age children.

Gladys Coggswell is a full time professional storyteller who makes people think, laugh, and learn. She has won many awards including the Missouri Arts Council’s Individual Artist of the Year Award in 2005 and the Missouri Humanities Council’s Outstanding Achievement in Literature Award in 2010 for her book, “Stories from the Heart” Missouri’s African American Heritage.

The CU Reading program encourages everyone in Champaign-Urbana to read and discuss the same book, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. CU Reading is co-sponsored by the Champaign Public Library and The Urbana Free Library, with support fromthe Champaign Public Library Friends and the Friends of The Urbana Free Library.
