The Burgess Boys by Elizabeth Strout

Some would say that adulthood is the process of working out and working through our primary familial relationships, particularly those with parents and siblings. In The Burgess Boys, award-winning novelist Elizabeth Strout puts this truism to the test. Jim and Bob Burgess, both New York attorneys, are called to their childhood hometown of Shirley Falls to rescue their nephew Zach from a bad scrape. The question at the heart of the novel is whether Zach’s troubles will serve to steady or disrupt the delicate balance among the Burgess siblings.
