Meet local author O. C. Stonestreet as he discusses his newest book "Once Upon a Time... in Mooresville". Once Upon a Time...in Mooresville, NC" is local historian O. C. Stonestreet's third book. Subtitled, "Episodes in the History of a Southern Town," its 36 chapters examine interesting parts of Mooresville's past, from John Franklin Moore's home to the Mooresville Depot to the beginning of the town's semi-professional baseball team, the Mooresville Moors. There is a chapter on the Confederate Army company, Co. I of the 7th NC Infantry Regiment which was organized near Mount Mourne and a chapter on Battery F of the 13th Field Artillery, U.S. Army, organized in Mooresville in 1917. Sports are highlighted with an extensive account of Mooresville High's State Championship Football Team of 1961. Also covered is the history of the town's schools, including the schools for black children. Once Upon a Time the town also had a Community Easter Sunrise Service and the town hosted the orphans from nearby Barium Springs to a picnic in the summer. Other chapters cover Stewart Park and Brown's Pool and Skating Rink. The 304-page book, illustrated with 30 photographs and with an extensive bibliography, concludes with a history of the beginning of Lake Norman. O. C. Stonestreet, a retired teacher and a frequent writer for the Mooresville Tribune and the Statesville Record & Landmark, is also the author of "They Called Iredell County Home," published in 2013, and "Tales from Old Iredell County," published in 2012.
