Bringing Local History to Life: Rum Runners and Temperance Tantrums

Event Type: Arts/Entertainment
Age Group(s): All Ages
Date: 5/4/2013
Start Time: 2:00 PM
End Time: 3:00 PM
Description:
The 18th Amendment made it illegal to manufacture, sell, or transport intoxicating liquors and it took effect on January 17, 1920. That, however, did not eliminate the problem! Bootleggers and rum runners thrived in Anoka County and Minnesota even before prohibition went nationwide in 1920. This program looks at the battle over booze, illegal and otherwise, that divided communities.

This free program is offered in partnership with Anoka County Historical Society and is funded with money from Minnesota's Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund. Visit anokacountylibrary.org or call 763-712-2322 for more information.
