 Jackie Robinson played his first game at Ebbets Field for the Brooklyn Dodgers on April 15, 1947. This one act broke the color line in Major League Baseball, and has been commonly considered the beginning of the Civil Rights Movement. Merle Branner originally presented at Cooperstown Symposium on Baseball and American Culture and will present this talk at the library. Presented with the Highland Park Historical Society.
