The Competition (1980)
Six acclaimed concert pianists perform the compositions of Beethoven, Prokofiev, Mozart, Liszt and Chopin in this contemporary romance set against the fascinating backdrop of a world-class music competition. Richard Dreyfuss stars as an obsessed concert pianist facing his last chance for the success he has coveted his entire life. Amy Irving plays a 21-year-old pianist who is not aware of the depth of her talent, her ambition or her capacity to love. They should be enemies but they have broken the cardinal rule of competition...they have fallen in love. But when the pair can no longer deny their desire for each other, they come face to face with a new dilemma — one of them may very well deny the other the long-cherished goal of winning.
