1825 was one of Buffalo's biggest ever years -- the Erie Canal opened, the Marquis de Lafayette came to visit (hence Lafayette Square) and more than 20,000 people (perhaps 10 times the population then) witnessed the only public hanging in NYS in Niagara Square -- WHAT?? The story of a murder and the murderers, the Thayer Brothers, is the subject of a new play by local playwright James Marzo. Presented here as a staged reading directed by Gail Golden and featuring Richard Lambert, David Mitchell, Michael Starzynski, and others. Free and open to the public; feedback session follows.
