As part of our year long Women Direct: First Films By Modern Visionary Filmmakers series celebrating the first films of modern masters and important new voices in cinema, we're excited to partner with Art+Feminism for a Wikipedia Edit-A-Thon at the Buffalo & Erie County Public Library - Central Library's TechKnow Lab on June 2nd from 12 - 4 pm! This worldwide initiative asks people the world over to log on to Wikipedia and contribute to the world’s encyclopedia by adding, editing, and expanding pages of women artists, including filmmakers!Library: Central Library
Wikipedia is the largest and most popular general reference work on the internet with more than 40 million articles in more than 250 different languages. The fact is when we don’t tell our stories or participate in the ways our history is preserved, it gets erased. Gaps in the coverage of knowledge about women, gender, feminism, and the arts on one of the most visited websites in the world is a big problem and we need your help to fix it.
Thanks to the Buffalo & Erie County Public Library's massive collection, wiki editors will have access to decades of cinema books, magazines and journals that will be pulled from the stacks and made available for this event and searchable via database. Snacks to be generously provided by BreadHive Bakery & Cafe!
We encourage attendees to create a Wikipedia account prior to the event. Computers and citation resources will be provided.
Held in the Computer Training Lab, 2nd Floor, Central Library.
