Buffalo Tales- the story of American Bison on Long Island in Blue Hill Bay

Event Type: Library-sponsored Adult Event
Date: 8/8/2014
Start Time: 6:00 PM
End Time: 7:30 PM
Description:
Patrons may wonder about the imposing bison head that now hangs in the Library. They may be ever more perplexed to learn that the bison is a former resident of Blue Hill Bay’s Long Island. Seasonal resident, Rex Florian, who has loaned the bison head to the Library, will host a question and answer gathering to answer everyone’s questions on Friday August 8th at 6:00 PM at the Library. He will talk about his family's ownership of Long Island in Blue Hill Bay and their placement and tending of an American Bison herd on the island during the 1980's and 1990's. The family sold a conservation easement for the island to the National Park Service in 1995, after which the bison were required to be removed. If you have a past encounter or family story about Blue Hill Bay’s past herd of Bison, please join the discussion as well! For more information, call the Library at 374-5515.
