Reception for "Maine Scenes" by Lorraine Lans

Iced In Event Type: Library-sponsored Adult Event
Date: 12/6/2019
Start Time: 4:00 PM
End Time: 6:00 PM
In December, the Blue Hill Public Library will host an exhibit of paintings by Stonington artist Lorraine Lans. The show, Maine Scenes, will feature landscape paintings of blueberry barrens, quarries, and coastal scenes, as well as the horse and oxen pulls at the Blue Hill Fair, and wildlife. The public is invited to a reception on Friday, December 6th from 4:00 to 6:00 PM.

Lorraine says she has painted Maine scenes for 27 years, “on the spot.” She has studied extensively, including at Boston University School of Fine Art, and the Fenway Studios Boston School, but says her main influence was her teacher Henry Hensche from the Cape School of Art, Provincetown, MA, who taught impressionism. Her artwork has been exhibited nationally and has garnered awards. About the show she says, “through the use of color I try to convey something uplifting to myself and others.”

The show will be in the library’s Britton Gallery and Roland Howard Room, available for viewing beginning December 2nd during library hours, subject to the Howard Room schedule. For more information contact the library at 374-5515.
