Peninsula Peace & Justice: ""Anita: Speaking Truth to Power""

Event Type: Community-sponsored Event (public)
Date: 2/28/2020
Start Time: 7:00 PM
End Time: 9:30 PM
Friday, February 28 at 7 p.m. at Blue Hill Library, Peninsula Peace & Justice will screen a trenchant 2013 documentary detailing the history of Anita Hillís galvanizing 1991 testimony about sexual harassment in the workplace. Interviewed first by the F.B.I. and then by the Senate Judiciary Committee headed by Joe Biden, Hill spoke directly of her bossís sexual overtures, jokes, and slurs at her expense. She suffered severe backlash and disability subsequent to sharing the truth when her government asked her to.

Anita: Speaking Truth to Power immerses the viewer in Hills grueling experience through days of hearings and afterward, choosing to break for two years from her law career to address issues facing women workers around the country. Resonating with key concerns in our present time, Academy Award-winning documentarian Freida Lee Mock weaves nuanced concerns of race, gender, patriarchy, and power through this complex, riveting account of self-control, courage, and solidarity.

The event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served. For more information, call 610-0396.
