Word Workshop: Lightning Round for Writers Young and Old with Ellen Booraem

Event Type: Library-sponsored Young Adult Event
Date: 10/26/2019
Start Time: 11:15 AM
End Time: 12:00 PM
Description:
Blue Hill Public Library and Word: Literary Arts Festival will co-sponsor a workshop for all ages 10 and up led by young adult author and Brooklin resident Ellen Booraem. In this workshop, participants will explore how stories are about people with burning needs or desires, choosing a character from an array of photos (a teenager? An old curmudgeon? An unhappy fairy?), and spending 45 minutes getting to know them through lightning-fast writing prompts. Maybe you’ll go home with a story to write! Participants may wish to bring a laptop or a writing implement. Paper and pencils will be provided.

After 20 years as a Hancock County journalist, Ellen Booraem quit her day job to write three fantasies for kids aged 10 and older. (“The Unnameables,” “Small Persons with Wings” and “Texting the Underworld.”) Her fourth book is due out in 2021.

This program is co-sponsored by the library and Word: Blue Hill Literary Arts Festival. There is no charge and everyone is welcome. For more information call the library at 374-5515. Additional information about Word can be found at Wordfestival.org.
