Readings on Race Discussion Group: Braiding Sweetgrass

Event Type: Library-sponsored Adult Event
Date: 1/26/2019
Start Time: 2:00 PM
End Time: 4:00 PM
Description:
New members are invited to the Blue Hill Public Library’s monthly discussion group, "Readings on Race," on Saturday January 26th, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM. The group will be discussing the book "Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge and the Teachings of Plants," by Robin Wall Kimmerer.

In the book Kimmerer presents the argument, "that the awakening of a wider ecological consciousness requires the acknowledgment and celebration of our reciprocal relationship with the rest of the living world. For only when we can hear the languages of other beings will we be capable of understanding the generosity of the earth, and learn to give our own gifts in return."

Surry resident Kate Mrozicki facilitates the group. Kate is a farmer who believes in the power of difficult conversations to change our reality. She got to practice those conversations during years of working for The Food Project in Boston and now raising small children in Surry. This event is free and everyone is welcome. For more information on the readings call the library at 374-5515.
