Date: 2/22/2019
Start Time: 6:00 PM

Peninsula Peace and Justice’s monthly film series will feature the documentary “Did You Wonder Who Fired the Gun?” at 7 pm on Friday, February 22, at Blue Hill Library. Lauded as one of the Ten Best Films at Sundance 2017, it follows steps in a committed veteran documentarian film maker’s return to the Alabama of his childhood to question the truth behind his white family’s abuse and violence toward blacks they knew, as well as its men’s rampant abuses of women.

Telling details accent Travis Wilkerson’s path as he explores his uncertainties about his great-grandfather’s untried killing of a black man in his corner store. Black and white Southerners are interviewed with informal tact and intimacy. A Village Voice review forecast the viewer’s feeling ""shivers up your spine - from fear, from anger, and from the beauty of Wilkerson's filmmaking."" In a personal story that implicates everyone, Wilkerson explores his cultural heritage, affirming that “everything begins in the family. And so I tried to deal with mine.”

The screening is free and open to the public. Refreshments served. For info 374-2357.
