Exhibit: Kaleidoscopes (Ongoing Event)

Event Type: Library-sponsored Juvenile Event
Date: 7/2/2018 - 8/31/2018
Brooksville resident Janet Lymburner will exhibit kaleidoscopes from her collection in the Blue Hill Public Library’s Larchwood Case during July and August. She says that her collection started with an impulse purchase of a ceramic kaleidoscope at an antique shop, decorated with a dragon wrapping around the cylinder, and continued with the surprise of finding them in unexpected places, typically while shopping for something else.

Janet says she has collected kaleidoscopes for thirty years, and chooses them based on the material they are made of and the images they make when viewing them through the eye piece. She has kaleidoscopes made from tin, paper, plastic, ceramic, wood, and stained glass. According to Janet, “Sally Austin, my sister, made me a stained glass model with a marble that creates the image and Benjamin Austin, my brother-in-law, made me egg-shaped models out of wood and moose antler (from a dropped antler).”

The exhibit will be available for viewing during library hours through the end of June. For more information call the library at 374-5515.
