Conservation Kids: Invasive Green Crabs

Event Type: Library-sponsored Juvenile Event
Date: 7/11/2018
Start Time: 10:00 AM
End Time: 12:00 PM
Kids are invited to a program about invasive green crabs on Wednesday, July 11th at 10 AM. Madelyn Woods, Marine Research Coordinator at the Shaw Institute, formerly Marine Environmental Research Institute (MERI), will talk about the crabs, how to identify them and why they are such a threat to local marine life. Kids will then be invited to remove invasive crabs at a local beach before heading back to the research lab where they will be able to try out the equipment the scientists use to monitor the health of local waters and marine life.

This project is the second of a series of five "Conservation Kids" projects by the library that are intended to engage youth volunteers to positively impact the environment and community on the Blue Hill Peninsula while teaching them skills to help preserve the natural world around them and showing them proactive steps they can take to make a difference! These programs are made possible by a grant from the Davis Conservation Foundation. For more information call the library at 374-5515.
