A workshop with Mike Hyde, VP External Affairs and Strategic Partnerships, The Jackson Laboratory
October 11th, 2017, 5:30-8:00PM (includes dinner)
Blue Hill Public Library, Roland Howard Room
One of the keys to success for any nonprofit organization is a strong partnership between the Executive Director and the Board of Directors. Nonprofits flourish when both parties are on the same page or they can become stagnant when Board and Director are out of sync. How can an organization create and maintain a fruitful partnership? Ranging from big picture insights to nuts and bolts strategies, Mike Hyde will discuss specific areas of responsibility and identify best practices for effective collaboration between EDs and Boards. This workshop will be interactive and will offer peer networking opportunities for board members and EDs.
You’ll come away from this workshop with a deeper understanding of:
the duties of care, loyalty and obedience
the nature of board and executive authority
how to effectively share responsibilities while still “moving the ball down the field.”
agreeing to disagree - what to do when disagreements arise.
Target Audience: This event is intended for both Executive Directors and members of Boards of Directors on the Blue Hill Peninsula and beyond. It will be most beneficial to organizations that can send both the ED and one or more board members. There are only 30 seats available for this event, on a first-come, first-served basis. Note: this event is only suitable for organizations that have an Executive Director.
Cost: $75 per organization (up to 4 registrants, $25 ea. for additional registrants), includes dinner with Barncastle pizza, salad and wine. We will invoice you and payment is expected before or at the time of the workshop. Dietary restrictions should be e-mailed at the time of registration to email@example.com.
