Q&A with the Islamic Center of Maine

Green and gold quran Event Type: Library-sponsored Adult Event
Date: 3/16/2017
Start Time: 7:00 PM
End Time: 8:30 PM
Omar Conteh, the outreach coordinator of the Islamic Center of Maine Orono, will give a presentation about the tenets of Islam and take questions from the audience about the Muslim faith.

The Islamic Center of Maine was established in Orono in the 1990s to provide a place of worship for all the Muslims in the area, particularly students at the University of Maine, and since then has been involved in interfaith works. They aim to engage all interested parties and promote dialogue and understanding amongst faith groups and civic groups in Maine. They invite people to share their faith and belief, whatever that happens to be, in order promote understanding and tolerance in our communities.

The Islamic Center of Maine is a functioning mosque and community center for Orono & Bangor's vibrant Muslim community. One of our primary goals is to connect with non-Muslims to increase understanding of Islam and to celebrate our connection as neighbors.

This program is part of our Diversity Downeast series, highlighting a wide range of voices on our peninsula. This series is made possible by the Friends of the Library.
