Event Type: Adult Program Age Group(s): Adult Date: 10/10/2019 Start Time: 6:30 PM End Time: 7:30 PM Description: Writing Techniques – Attend a workshop presented by the Hudson Valley branch of the Writers Studio in NYC. The Writers Studio approaches the study of creative writing through an emphasis on the voice, or what we call the persona narrator. Our focus is on asking why a particular kind of voice, when married to a particular kind of material can produce a result that is powerful, transformative and aesthetic. But on a more practical level as we think about voice as composed of the decisions about technique the writer uses. In this class we will break down the techniques Ron Rash deployed in Burning Bright. We will break down his persona narrator, talk about why he made the decisions he did and then using similar guidelines we will collectively develop a prompt where we use his craft on our stories. Time permitting we may write in class. We feel that craft is the handrail we use to get started. It is recommended, that registrants read Ron Rash's book of short stories prior to the class. All levels are welcome.
