A three-week class designed to help people diagnosed with arthritis learn ways to take control of their illness. Attendees are asked to commit to all three classes. Each class lasts 2.5 hours and is taught by instructors trained by the Arthritis Foundation who have experience with arthritis either personally or professionally. Topics include exercise, pain management, communicating with your health care provider, diet, medication, dealing with depression, relaxation and stress management, problem solving and goal setting. The course normally costs $25.00, but thanks to a grant from the State of New York Department of Health, this course is free of charge! Each participant will receive a copy of ‘The Arthritis Help Book’, a $20.00 value.

Community Services in Your Neighborhood

Local community services will provide health awareness materials, public health insurance applications, nutrition information, food stamp applications, energy cost saving information, and blood pressure screening. Free refreshments and goody bags will be offered to all attendees. This event is open to anyone and is especially targeted for medically uninsured residents of Onondaga County between the ages of 40 and 64. This open house is organized by the Cancer Services Partnership of Onondaga County, which offers free medical screening, education and cancer awareness services.

StorySlam! April Fool's Edition
