Emily Carpenter discusses how growing up in Birmingham, Alabama, center of the Civil Rights Movement, shaped the kind of writer she would become. From being steeped in the Southern Gothic classics as a child, to her experiences working for two CBS soap operas in New York, then returning to the South, Carpenter will discuss her path to publication and how she discovered that Southern Gothic was in her blood.
