Description:
Featuring Radical Adjustments: The Life & Times of Marilyn Reed Lucia. Marilyn Reed Lucia lived her life outside of what was considered “normal” for a woman of her generation. She grew up during the Great Depression and married a war hero only to discover that being a good Navy wife precluded following her dream of becoming a doctor. In defiance of post-World War II mores that kept women firmly in the kitchen and nursery she got divorced to pursue her dream. She was accepted to medical school at a time when only 3% of medical students where women. Even more unusual, she remarried and raised four children while completing her studies and embarking on a medical career.

A courageous quest for self-knowledge was the key to her ability to navigate successfully in the world. She pursued this through her studies in psychiatry, individual psychoanalysis, and clear-eyed self-observation of her role and relationships within her family. When her third child Darryl was born with a severe facial deformity the course of her life and work changed fundamentally. Co-sponsored by Compassionate Fox Cities. Refreshments served. Free admission.
