ReviewsTitle: Forty Acres and Maybe a Mule by Harriette Robinet Review: Forty acres and Maybe a Mule is a book about a family of African-American children whose brother finds out they are free and comes back to run away with them. On the way to Georgia they meet Mr. Freedman, a free black, who travels with them to Georgia. In Georgia, they get forty acres to plant a farm. They are able to keep it through drought, storms, and heat but one day the rule changes and they have to move. This book helped me understand how slaves lived after they were freed....Check the Library Catalog for this item! Title: Harvesting Hope by Kathleen Krull Review: This story is about a man named Cesar Chavez. He started a march to try to improve the conditions of California farm workers. What he acomplised helped poor people to be treated like human beings with respect. What I liked about this book was that he did the right thing without violence and without giving up. I would recommend this book because it helped me understand how a group of people were once treated....Check the Library Catalog for this item! Title: On the Wings of Heroes by Richard Peck Review: It was a great book! It is a book about world war II. The main character is a boy named Davy Bowman. Davy's brother Bill goes to war after Pearl Harbor was bombed. Their elderly neighbors, the Hiser's liked noise. He also liked playing around the tree that the Hiser's owned. The book is about how Davy's life changed from playing hide and seek to collecting metal for the war. I think most kids would enjoy this book....Check the Library Catalog for this item!
